Hi All!

Newbie collector question again :)

I just received this ebay item: 250095243817

I was surprised that the slab was not sealed with the grading
authority's tape. Isn't this the normal procedure? I'm withholding feedback for now because I'm halfway feeling I got took for a ride.

thanks in advance

Unfortunately that does not appear to be a real third party grading company. Rather a person who purchased CoinWorld holders and assigned their own grade. I can not say their intent was to mislead but I would say much more likely then not. If
your not happy ask about a return policy. The worst he can say is no. I wouldn't threaten feadback but if you are dissatisfied the neg will hurt him more then it will hurt you.

landslide,

I'm also a brand new collector. Learn as much as you can as quickly as possible. This website is a great place for that. Also, visit local coin shops and figure out which dealer(s) you trust. Of those, find which one doesn't mind spending time talking to you about coins. Generally it's nice if you buy something in return.

OK, on subject: There are only three Third Party Graders that are worth a darn, PCGS, NGC, and ANACS (many say in that order). Some may argue a forth, but those three are widely accepted by almost everyone. There are probably 200-300 other TPG's, the vast majority are not worth their weight in plastic.

I personally shy away from sellers that tout a "certified" coin that is not one of the three. Even if the coin itself looks nice in the photos, I trust the seller less.

To me the question would be how does the coin look in hand? If it's the supposed MS70 they are calling it, there should be absolutely nothing on coin even at any level of magnification. I think....

For $10, it looks like a cheap "Lessons learned". Unless of course the coin is not in good shape. Then I would be asking questions to the seller. There's no return policy stated, but the seller guarantees all of his products.

Looks like he just got into the selling part of the game. I'm sure you can work something out with him if you don't like the coin. His feedback rating would be slaughtered if you left negative, so I would be careful with using it as a tool.

Just my opinion of course.

The fourth grading company is ICG (Independent Coin Grading). From what I've seen of this company, grading on older coins is pretty accurate but seems lax on the moderns.

The coin in this auction is NOT certified. The holder is simply a Coin World holder (you can tell by the logo at the bottom left). I am sure that this is why the seller did not mention the grading company in the auction. It's a shame. This seller has 100% feedback and is about to blow his rating and reputation for a $5 sale.

Don't worry about this loss. Just keep the coin (sell it yourself or give it away) and be more careful when buying on ebay. I would reccomend only buying PCGS and NGC slabs.
