Opinions Please. Curious if it looks right, whether you think it's been cleaned, and what an approximate grade would be.

I recently found this while moving, in a box of things from my father (he passed away in 2004). The box had been sitting in my attic for 8 years now. I remembered him having a Trade dollar but never knew exactly what happened to it. Fits my Dansco 7070 well.

Thanks!

My Coinbook Pro says:

VF-20 All Letters and Date clearly defined. Hair is worn.
EF-40 Half of hairlines are clear. Some detail in Eagles feathers
AU-50 Only light wear on higher points of coin. Some luster present
MS-60 Virtually no wear
MS-63 Light contact marks. Full luster
MS-64 Nice eye appeal, less contact marks than MS-63
MS-65 100% mint luster. Almost no contact marks

Being new to this, I will defer the actual grading to the more experienced here.

Maybe a high VF, low XF. Possible graffiti in the left field Obverse. Cool find!

I don't see anything that would suggest it being counterfeit in the pictures. as far as grade this is one of this strange cases where the Reverse is in worst condition than the Obverse. I can see this one being graded as XF but with that Reverse it could come back VF also. Usually the Obverse carries most of the weight when they grade though. It being from your father none of this really matters, I would leave it where it is

If real, VF35-xf45 has a nice original crusty look to it

Nothing screams fake to me. I would also say high VF low XF. Very nice coin and keepsake.

Thanks for the replies everyone! My opinion was about an original EF40 so I am in the ball park. Like has been stated its not a big deal on the grade since I am estatic that I have this one from my dad to put in the 7070.

I remember the stories about Trade dollars... He got this one from a collector who was a family friend when I was young (almost 40 years ago now) but I remember when he showed it to me once talking about a port call in Nationalist China in '45/'46 after WWII (dad was a navy vet). I remember his comment about seeing shoe boxes of Trade dollars chinese vendors were using. Though after reading other post about the veitnam vet seeing (& buying) the same sort of stuff and realizing they were all fakes make me wonder what he saw...

Thanks again gentlemen!
