So I was getting bored and came across this auction for a LINCOLN WHEAT Memorial penny CENT COIN COLLECTION on ebay, it had: Three separate folders containing the following: 1. 1909 - 1940 Wheat Ears Reverse (31 coins) 2. 1941 - 1958 Wheat Ears Reverse (51 coins, including 1943 P-D-S steel) 3. 1959 - 2006 Memorial Reverse, 1959 - 1982, and Zinc, 1982 - present (77 coins with certificate of authenticity) The auction had a reserve price, so to see what it was I bid upto $90 and the reserve price was met. I had the feeling that I would not win it but I did. So I guess my question is did I pay too much? Coinmaniac

If the coins are in good shape and you are happy with them then NO you didn't pay to much. But if the coins are in bad shape and you wish you hadn't bought it then yes you paid to much. I have done the same thing before just to see what the reserve was and have won a couple auctions I didn't really want.

90.00 may have been a little steep ,, but then who knows where the cents came from ,, and If they have been searched for all of the things that can be found in the cent coins .
maybe when you have the set in hand you can get us better resolution pics to look at ?
I suspect that the steelies are replated but we can find that out when you get the coins also .

In my option you can never pay to much for coins as long as you are happy with them.

I should add that it would not take very many of the semi keys to make your deal a bargain,, since we have no info on the dates and the pics are not close enough to read , then perhaps I was a little hasty assuming that the set would not contain any of the semi keys of the series.

None of the coins in the first set have mint marks. It has 31 coins for 31 years, each coin bearing no mint mark. The only coin omitted is 1922, for obvious reasons (a 1922 without a mint mark is extremely rare!). If the first set was complete with mint marks, I guarantee the final price would not have been only $90.

Just think about it this way; if you think you overspent, 6 months from now you wont even notice you lost $90. Also, you have a pretty good start to completing the set. This helps a lot if it's something you want to accomplish. Ty
