Hi group! Please see the following pictures and vote for whether you think it was a shipwrecked (or chemically treated) piece or a counterfeit. I am at my will's end to judge this coin. The World coin catalog states its weight is 5.41 grams but mine is 5.77 grams. If anybody has the same coin, can you tell me the weight of yours? Thank you!

Hello,wonghinghi.
In my opinion,I don't think it was a shipwrecked coin.
Look at its wear.It was stored under the ground for long time.Environment damage, may be !
So,its weight became much heavier. It is common.

Thank you KEVINWOO, but I see two ebay sellers who post their 4R Joseph of 1811 and 1809 weigh 5.77 and 5.74 recently. They both look real. I now tend to believe the World coin catalog quoted the weight of this coin wrong. I hope those collectors having the same type of coin can post here and give the weight of coin for comparison.

I own a couple counterfeits of that type that are overweight. I suggest Specific Gravity But it would require a VERY accurate scale and set up. You need an analytical balance.

Color is SUPER suspect. 99% of coins that look like this are in my opinion counterfeit.

You can never be sure from a picture but my money is on Modern Counterfeit.
