I figured that you collectors may help me find a table lamp type lighted magnifing glass. Since age and eyesight is getting bad. I need a convient type glass to look over coins and be able to enjoy searching for some of the many error types they have found.
Not the type that clamps to the table with the big arm.
Any help would be appreciated

Hey, garys64wildcat: My wife's girlfriend has loaned my one of those magnifier/lamps. I find that the magnification is inadequate; rathter use a handhheld magnifier and a lamp. Be sure to get one with the right magnification. Maybe there's better ones than I have.

I gave a lighted stand magnifier to my dad.
It was about a 4 inch lens 5x magnification mounted on a clear base with a light.
I bought it at princess auto for about $5.00

Have you considered using a USB microscope?

I've looked at several different magnifier/lamp combinations and the conclusion I always come to is the magnification is too low and the optics are poor resulting in a lot of distortion. I would probably look into the USB microscope possibility.

I never thought of the USB microscope, sounds like they work very well. I was thinking of of a magnifing glass. But it sounds good. You just have to have a pc with you if you arent at home. I looked on the web and there are lots of them and they all look different. and price also from 20$ on up.
Thank You for the info

I was looking for a pocket magnifier with a light a couple of years ago and I gave up because they all require expensive batteries. That would not be a problem if you only used it at shows or club meetings...but I was going to use it every day for at least an hour.

So then I started looking for a good lens and the prices scared me off. I wouldn't be so skittish about spending the money but I wasn't certain what I wanted exactly.

Anyway, one day I swiped my husband's microscope and bought him a better one for his birthday.

I don't like that the attached lights make taking photos just about impossible. But I haven't found on with a controllable light source.

If you find one with a controllable light source, that, I believe would be the best way to go.

Good luck shopping.

I would imagine there has to be something that you can hook up to a computer? that would be cool if you can place a coin under it and have it magnefied on a screen

That's the USB microscopes that were mentioned.
