Buyers do that ALL the time to scare off other bidders. I do it sometimes myself.

not when you look at this from each bidder 30-Day Summary Total bids: 317 Items bid on: 128 Bid activity (%) with this seller: 5%
and this 30-Day Summary Total bids: 180 Items bid on: 44 Bid activity (%) with this seller: 2%

That's what I looked at as well. Usually shill bidders have a very high Bid Activity with that seller.

If there is a hgih number of bids on an item, wouldn't it make you want to check it out to see what is so special?

I doubt it's a shill. If so, they're putting in a lot more time and effort than this coin would seem to merit. I think z***z is just "nibbling" to see where f***c is at so that he eventually moves past him but doesn't leapfrog past him by any more than he absolutely needs to in order to take the lead. Bobby: How can\does doing this "scare off" other bidders while the auction is still live? If this auction was still live would f***c be able to see that z***z was stealthily working on overtaking him....?

I voted no, but how about this one? (hope the link works) 30-Day Summary Total bids: 260 Items bid on: 65 Bid activity (%) with this seller: 100% Bid retractions: 1 Bid retractions (6 months): 1 http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI....yer_ViewLinkUnless I do not understand the data, it's obvious to me to be shill bidding. I'm a little surprised though as I've bought from this seller before and HAD a higher opinion of the seller. I always watch this on items I'm bidding on. Any whiff of bid inflation and I'm out.

Quote: it's obvious to me to be shill bidding. Could be obvious that it's a loyal customer too. I have at least a dozen buyers on ebay that only buy from me. Accuse me publicly with such BS "proof" and you'll be signing for your mail. You have absolutely, positively, no clue if it's shill bidding and to state it as a "matter of fact" is nothing short of criminal.

Quote: nothing short of criminal. I don't think so, however alleging someone to be a criminal without proof is probably at least borderline defamatory among other things. Your previous responses on this topic make it quite clear your opinion and position on this and everyone should respect that. Do the same for others. I stated my thoughts and put it out there for input. Chill and Happy Thanksgiving!

Looks like 2 bidders duking it out.

for all of ebay's shortcommings, they actually have pretty extensive software, that looks out for shill bidders, and yes they do actually catch people. It would be interesting to see if the person doing all the bidding actually ever won any items. and even if they didn't it would be suspicious at best..
