Hi All,

I have recently found this forum and am hoping someone can provide me with some help/assistance. My dad recently visited the Canberra mint and saw a coin in their 'one in a million display' that he also has. To me it looks like a 10c blank that has been stamped as a 20c (see attached picture). Ignore the date as my mum didn't set the date on the camera.

He has had this coin from about 1975 and it came from a mint roll from the shop he was working in at the time. It has been seldom handled and wrapped in a tissue. He is wondering if it is worth anything and whom he should take it to if he wants to sell it. He is sceptical of his local coin dealer as it was taken to him a few years ago and he was told it was worth nothing.

All help greatly appreciated.
Barrie.

Whilst I know little about this type of error I do know they exist. There are several similar wrong planchet coins listed on this forum.

If your is genuine it would be worth quite a bit. I'm not exactly sure but I would have said a couple hundred. Which state/city do you live in and which dealer did you go to see? We could recommend someone for you.

I think there would be a lot of interest in this error coin,
error coin have gain in popularity & price in recent months so I believe you would get very good $$'s for it if you listed it on ebay, coins struck on wrong planchets don't come up often.
I wish I had some spare $$'s as I would make you an offer.
Great coin & good luck with it.

I'm in Canberra but my dad is in Mackay, Qld. He does visit quite often so it's no problem for him to bring it down to Canberra on his next visit. Not sure of the exact dealer he took it to but it was one in Mackay.

Walter Eigner is a dealer in Canberra who is also a member of this forum (wwwww). Maybe get in contact with him. I've never sold anything to him but he has always been great when I have purchased coins.

check the weight of your coin compared to that of a normal 10 cent and see if they are the same, if yours is heavier it could just be a normal 20 cent that was shaved down.
