Still don't know how I stand on the Royal Canadian Mint's recent turn for quantity and variety; crystals and glass, holograms and rose gold plating, and frosting so heavy it looks like static under a scope... What I'm sure of is that I miss the older coins. Like this set I manage to pick up the other day:

Plain and simple and not dressed up (a true full fractional set too, not like the recent couple of issues that conveniently replaced the 1/2oz for the 1/20oz)
Rest in Peace

I am reminded of the 1967 set with the gold.
Wanted it but we could not import modern gold at the time.

Last year at a coin show a dealer showed me the five ounce US silver pieces (I won't dignify
those with the name "coin.")
I had two words to say, "That's obscene!"

Lady bug, lady bug, fly away home.
STAY OFF OUR COINS!

Awesome set, very nice coins, poboxw
The fields are mirrored and clear, that makes Maple Leaf to show up with all it's beauty.

Wish it was silver set.
When heard first time about 2013 Fractional SML set, was in hope that it will be Proof finish.

@Dcadon:
Unfortunately not. There's considerable premium on these sets, with the 1oz Au, 1oz Ag, and 1oz Pt 3 coin set being the most highly priced.

@matthewvincent:
The 1967 gold $20 is one I've been pining after for a while now. It's considered as the first true Canadian NCLT. And, I'm glad you feel the same about the ladybug coin. The pimple coin I call it.

@Silveroid:
I almost wish that the RCM don't do any more proof maples though. Don't want them to start spamming proof coins like Americans and Australians do. This set is good enough for me:

To poboxw:

Believe me, I understand you. But you do have those sets.

The 1989 Proof Silver Maple Leaf - that one I have, and it really enough, to keep it unique among Bullion / Reverse Proof / Coloured SMLs.

There is one but:
I have them two, two beautiful 1989 Proof SMLs, each one in an elegant wooden box, and each one has small imperfection - from the angle of 45 degrees, on the light, I can see some "fogged" area on the mirrored field close to edge.
I understand that this coin has been struck 20 years ago (even more) and this is still excellent condition, but want the perfect one, and this was my hope for 2013 set.

***But in bottom line still I like them***

@ Silveroid:
I have gone through several PF SMLs to find a spotless one. Many of these sell on ebay for anywhere between $60-90 but the vast majority are imperfect. I do have a couple more that's basically flawless so message me if interested.
