I bought this George III coin when I first started collecting coins. Now I know a bit more, I think it may be a fake. It has a very rich brown treacle colour, which does not show up well on the pics. And is very smooth. There are virtually no scratches. I would class it between extra fine and uncirculated.
I have no idea what denomination it is.
It measure 40 mm and weighs 26 grams.
Any help would be appreciated.

I believe it's an 1808 Geo. III pattern from Ireland, should be about silver dollar size. These were actually used in the states, before our mints were up & running.

Hi, I suspect it is a 2007 60 Schillings see here http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/Wo...mSearch=true whether its silver or some other metal I do not know

They were made in silver, lead, copper, pewter, aluminium, goldine and even gold.

I'm going to agree with Rooney. It appears to be the goldine version, but that could just be lighting and its possibly just a shiny copper.

Something obviously went wrong here with software or something. I can still see the Irish coin here and I have uploaded a chinese coin on another topic I have just posted. But when I was trying to post the chinese topic the chinese picture would not load and all I kept seeing was this Irish coin. So I don't know what happened there. But I restarted my laptop and the chinese topic seemed to upload ok.
I hope everyone can see the relevant pics to each topic now.

When you post a new pic with the same filename as an old one, your old one will change to the new.

That's what happened here. I shall have to remember that in the future.
Thanks Phil
