Hello Friends, Not sure if this topic should be posted here. If need to be moved Please do. I am absolutely 'gaga' over Britannia coins. I need your input. I am considering starting this collection. Please direct me to some reasonably prized Silver Britannia's sites for further evaluation. Thanks, mila_. Edited by Mila_cent 03/29/2007 1:58 pm

Britannias are quite nice..probably my favorite bullion coins. You can usually get them for 25-30 each on ebay..although the 1999 (chariot) seems to be running higher. Plus more if you want the reverse proof ones.

I am absolutely fascinated with Una and the Lion gold coin However I have never seen it for sale . I have some silver Brittanias but the mint seal and packing is orfull They come in plastic sheets of ten coins: sheets that fall apart after a few years and the coins go yellow before you notice . Also the 2005 gold blister pack was absolutely substandard on the gold sovereign . So whatever you should beware that if the first owner did not put the coins in an airtight they will be yellowed somekind of ugly

Seems these have quite a markup with silver being under $14oz...

I think with a Production limited to 100,000 coins annually, that the mark up is not to bad. the ASE proof have a decent markup as well and I beleave that the designs plus they way they are made they look beter. also with the low mintage and Popularity of these coins I think this is one of the silver dollar set that will alway be valueble and popular. but yes the mark up is high but most silver bullion dollar besides the ASE, Libertad, Maple leaf they are all steep. but I think they are worth it.Just my opion

ageka, there are usually a few auctions for the "una and lion" style. a search for "2001 britannia" will net you a few results. I managed to get mine for <20$... a real bargain compared to their going prices now.

Although these bullion coins are nice, I have trouble with the idea of paying nearly double melt value.

Looks like you have enough suggestions as where to buy the coins. I have a complete set of the one ounce silver Britannias, and they are among my very favorite coins. Beautiful coins!!

I only have one and I got it at the Charlotte show when I was there. They really are some nice looking coins. Mine is a year 2000 and its reverse proof version and It looks like I got a pretty good deal on it because I only paid 18 bucks for it at the show, they were asking 24.00 but I talked them down to 18

That was a good deal.
I keep a record of what I spend, and my 2000 cost me $25.

I guess I look at some of the foriegn silver dollar a little but difference I don't alway go off of the silver spot when buying alot of them since I feel some of the seriers are a little different then say the ASE as far as I no the UNC strike they do not have a limit on who mainy they mint so the value of this should be close to spot but when they have a small max mintage of the silver dollar I look at more like I am buying a commemrative or campare it to me buying any coin that is somewhat low mintage. But I agree that when a silver bullion coin has no limit set or a very high limit then you should't pay much more then spot. I beleave the maple leaf is about the same as the ASE in that they have very high mintages so they can't charge much more then spot. but if you look at the 1996 SAE for intance it didn't have a high mintage aor high demand and look at the value of that one. onto another point if you look at the US modern Commems they are pricey in my opion and I feel most of htose are justafible since they do make a limmited amount they mint. Keep in mind I am a big fan of all silver bullion dollar and feel that if the coin fit what I am in need of or what I do not mind paying alittle more. Just hope to one day have a collection of silver dollar that has a great look and value becasue of the low mintages of most of the foriegn dollars. I will stop now. Just the way I do it. I might be over paying or might be geating a good price I guess only the future will tell. But I also can not afford to go back and get all of the silver set I am collecting would cost to much just pick 8-10 differnent seriers and buying them for 2005- since that is when I restarted collecting.
