Fat Freddy, no offense taken at all by me. I just realize that we aren't going to agree. It's an interesting discussion to hear why some take exception to this listing. I don't think any misrepresentation was intended. I just hope no one buys this listing thinking there is a roll of silver halfs headed their way for $18.

Adding to this topic, I hope this turns out well for buyer and seller. It seems to be more legitimate. http://www.ebay.com/itm/181021161987/ I would not personally buy large groups like this via ebay but looks like others will.

The listing is NOT in any way shape or form deceitful. I and many other roll hunters have found exactly what is pictured there. There are absolutely no lies in the listing. There are several points where it is stressed no guarantee of silver. The rolls ARE unsearched. I just got done going through 500.00 worth of unsearched rolls. Granted, I am smart enough to go get them from a bank at face value. But there are plenty of people out there who can't get boxes from their banks. For that matter, the boxes I get that are the exact same rolls as he is selling, the bank charges me a 25.00 per box fee. So this guy goes out there, gets a box of halves and offers them up for sale in a completely honest and straight forward manner, and you decide to call his honesty and integrity into question? Why not save your righteous outrage for the REAL scam artists? Quote: "Unsearched Penny Rolls - Old Wheat Pennies Possible" or "Old Indian Head Pennies Possible. Are you serious? I can't begin to count how many threads about seeded penny rolls have been posted here. I just searched penny rolls on ebay. Here are the first two listings: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unsearched-...em27cd02385fhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/Unsearched-...em25777a5871So tell me how THOSE postings are escaping your holy wrath? THOSE are deceitful listings, and as I said, ones that have been talked about here ad nauseum. Quote: The picture shows a Walker, a Franklin and a '64 JFK So? We have found that and more in one box. My wife found a 38D amongst dozens of other silvers in one box. It happens. Again, he says flat out no guarantees. NOTHING deceitful.

And why exactly should I frown upon it? Again, it is spelled out clearly what is being offered. How is a clearly written truthful listing designed to "sucker" anyone? As long as you are capable of reading, then there is no suckering involved. And that means that I am not a serious collector then? And just where is this rule book (because if you can say something like serious collectors there has to be a rule book that outlines the qualifications) located? I would love to see a copy of it.

Two things that I said above should not be overlooked: 1- "... anybody who wants to is free to see this offering however they want to see it. They're also free to buy as many of these rolls as they'd like to spend $18 a copy on." 2- Everybody who feels this is a legit, A-OK and defensible offering should definitely act on their convictions and buy the product being offered. After all, like the man said -- "THIS IS A GREAT WAY FOR VETERAN COLLECTORS AND NEW ONES ALIKE TO HAVE FUN AND MAYBE FIND A GREAT PIECE OF HISTORY!" -- and -- "Franklin, Walking Liberty and Kennedy 90% silver coins are possible! 40% silver Kennedy coins are possible as well!"
I do honestly sympathize with anybody who has to pay a $25 per box bank fee to obtain boxes of coins. That's really awful. I'd find another bank or another hobby if I was looking at that.

It's like the empty xbox boxes that sold for hundreds of dollars back in the day. People will get fooled even though it is CLEARLY spelled out. Always read descriptions.

Freddy, not sure how you are managing to get boxes without paying. Capital One as a whole will no longer order boxes at all. It takes a virtual act of congress with most BOA branches. Burke and Herbert charges if they will do it at all. PNC won't order them at all. Sun Trust is hit or miss. I have 6 bank accounts for this and can only get boxes for free from a single branch of a bank. I have yet to open an account with Wells Fargo to try there.
Your whole post, and its intention is to call out this individual in a negative way. I have no problem if you want to take on those penny sellers or the Morgans for 20 bucks scammers. But when you start smearing someone who is operating aboveboard, and CLEARLY so, then I do have issue.
erkle, when your offered opinion is "serious collectors frown upon it" that automatically infers those that don't frown upon it are not serious collectors. When someone says I am not a serious collector simply because I don't meet their personal set of standards, I do get testy.
Broseph, huge difference here. Those guys put up a listing where they mentioned it was an empty box buried in the description in small print and only in one spot with the clear and obvious intention of scamming people.
Here you have a guy saying hey, here is what I have found in these rolls. You may find it, you may not, no guarantees. WORLD of difference.

Those of you who know me on these boards know that I generally have pretty strong opinions on certain topics and sometimes don't shy away from voicing them......but this thread has gotten way out of control even for me. I can't understand how anybody on either side of this argument has gotten so riled up. This is pretty much a non-issue, it's just one ebay listing. I wasn't even interested in responding to this thread until I felt the need to say this. For anyone berating this one seller...common it's not that bad. For those standing up for him like your life depended on it, why? The listing is slightly unethical, but there is, indeed, much worse out there. I simply don't really care, and I can't believe this thread is headed towards page 3.

There have been MANY examples of selling boxes, some were explicit. The internet has many people on it. Somewhere along the line someone who doesn't know better will waste their money if enough people put up dumb listings.

why change what I said? "should be frowned upon by serious collectors imo" is what I said/wrote.
what you wrote and say I wrote are 2 different things "serious collectors frown upon it"
2 very different statements dont you think?
the adds are designed to give hope, truthful yes, but misleading to suckers and uncoineducated people. morally I would rather not sell a coin if I had to use methods like that, and I hope many others would think the same as me.
