Have you ever sat and wondered what to do while waiting for those last few coins to complete your set.
As a focused collector I try to complete one subject at a time, not to say I would not pick up a good deal if I seen one.
While awaiting a few last pieces in my Elizabeth 5cent set, and still trying to keep with my subject, I choose my birth year 1971 as a target. I had been working on business strikes but keep seeing proof likes around. So with a target year set and PL coins as the next subject, I needed a challenge so I choose Ultra Heavy Cameos. So to the books I went to do some research. With most books suggesting only less than a handful UHC existing per die set, I turned to ICCS pop report for the stats. PL64-1 PL65-2 PL66-4 PL67-1.
So for the past two years I have be picking up these UHC coins and setting them a side, just the other day I took a look at them to see how I was coming along and lone and behold the challenge has been accomplished! So I thought.
With all the coins lined up in front of me I noticed an extra one ( the holes keep coming ). And I guess that's why I will always be a collector!

One or more was slabbed after the POP report was compiled.

What's missing?

I will see what's missing after the next pop report.
But I have now finished this type set and we leave the rest of the finds to the world.
This was just a fun little challenge for me, maybe I got carried away it appears the market is cornered for now.
Time to exhibit

The proof-like POP report is riddled with mistakes. I have ICCS coins, proof-like in ultra heavy cameo, that are not even listed in the POP report.

The 1971 specimen strikes also can be found with ultra heavy cameos, have you thought about searching for those?

I am a year older than you (1970), and have done a similar birth year collection, but with all strikes - I am still searching for a 10-cent with a heavy cameo or better finish.

I will consider the specimens SPP-Ottawa I also have a few coins not listed by ICCS that bothers me when they are not in the report and I never go by the numbers printed as I have seen many discrepancies there.

CBH
I think your idea is neat about collecting the individuals for your birth year. Do you collect the other denominations for your birth year? Or does your forum name say it all. Lol.

CBH is my passion but I tend to pick up anything from my birth year especially errors, double date and things like that.
I have many sets of different things, but what ever I am working at the time is the primary focus. For the last 8 years it has been five cents.
