I was looking at old currency (19 century), and admired the art and detail of the notes. It appears to me that it would have be harder to counterfeit those notes opposed to 1950 - 1990 notes. Is this a correct statement? Why did the government dummy down the intricacies of the mid 20th century currency?

Excellent Question and I agree with you but I think it had something to do with the size of the bills and security threads in the paper. But thats just probably only part of the answer. Have to do some homework on that one!
