This is my first entry into New Brunswick silver. On the reverse you'll observe scratches over the crown and on the obverse a rim ding at ten o'clock. And even in these pixilated scans the doubled 2 is apparent. Doublings, overdates and the like have always interested me so I'm glad to have an example.
Which grade would you assign? How does the damage impact the value?
The obverse may well be VF20-30,but there is too much wear on the reverse crown and upper right leaves to warrant an overall VF grade. Circulated Canadian coins are tradionally graded by wear only.Eye appeal, damage, cleaning etc. have no effect on the grade, they do affect the desirability and thus value.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning... -from PCGS website
We may differ slightly on the 1870 10 Cent =) but we agree on this coin. These scans don't quite do justice to the pleasing obverse. I'd complete the NB series were it not so tough to find lower grade examples of the silver coins.
