Hello:

I am just looking for some feedback on breaking up this set for sale. I'm seeing many of these sets broken up and sold on E-Bay. The Wolf Cub Toonie is going for around the $40+ plus mark and the rest of the coins not doing too badly either.

I guess I'm just someone who hates breaking up a set. Seeing that this set also has the last penny struck in a specimen set makes me more leery of breaking it up. Maybe it is broken up in order to charge less shipping and make the sale more appealing?

I would like to hear some thoughts on breaking up sets.

Thanks,
Steve

I think there will be more specimen pennies struck, just like they do with the 50c.

I have this set, I'm not interested in breaking it up, but If you do...you can make a profit of about $40 after paying off the original cost.

I like to get two sets. One intact and one broken up to spread across my various binders. Be careful about assuming you'll make a profit though. I've managed to pick up a few of the twoonies at auction for only $28-$31 per already.

I just started to collect this set, the packaging is beautiful and the mintage is lower than the other loonie specimen set

This is why I got the set. Low mintage, very nice design...and the "last year of the penny". Makes for a great collectors item with a chance to flip if needed. Like I said, i'll be hanging on to mine. If anyone wants one however, I can get one for stock price (buyer pays shipping) ! PM me if interested

I have a question, perhaps a silly one.. does our Mint release specimen sets which include both the regular Loonie and Toonie? I searched the Mint's web page, but it seems that we only release 2 specimen sets per year now, one with a special Loonie, and one with a special Toonie...

shopaholic> There is no longer a single set that has both the regular specimen loonie and toonie.

The normal specimen loonie is in the wildlife series and the normal specimen toonie is in the special specimen loonie set.
