Hungarian coins have had many restrikes according to Krause Krause mentions a rosette close to the mintmark which I do not find on my 100 Korona gold coin Also Krause uses the abreviations U.P. for restrikes Does anyone know how a 1908 original 100 Korona can be distinguished from a 1908 restrike ? Here is some info that I found. I found a link that discusses the restrikes and also a picture of an ANACS slabbed restrike. I'm looking for more info on the original strikes. 1908 100 Korona Info

Thank you I surfed the web for hours and found nothing but restrikes Not Krause nor Schoene seem to have a foto of an original Somebody is offering me an original but it looks exactly like the restrike I have so I cannot believe it is an original

From what I found, I want to say that the originals are extremely rare and that most of those that are offered as originals are probably restrikes.
Is the seller willing to let you get it authenticated? If ANACS will authenticate a restrike, it stands to reason that they would authenticate an original. From what I understand, they are pretty reasonable price-wise also.

No I get the guarantuee the coin is of real gold and no copy I get fourteen days return privilages The coin as so said been authenticated by an austrian coindealer as real but if I cannot know myself the difference between a real and a restrike I will pass since chances are this is going to be a BU restrike at too high a price

I know I shouldn't do this but I think it might get you an answer;
First thing I would do is go and ask GDJSMP (if forget the exact letter arrangement) over at Cointalk, that guy knows his gold, I bet he could tell the difference between a restrike and an original.

Ætheling, there is nothing wrong with recommending that. As you say, GD knows his gold and he likes to share his information.

GD is the reason I do not go there anymore He said a coin I posted was harshly cleaned And he made completely offtopic comments in a discussion between me and somebody from New Zealand

Ha GD!
Yeah I remember way back on coinpeople I used to post alot of pictures there. And he came in, in full generous sharing mode one day, determined to outdo me (he made it clear), posting pictures of his far superior specimens to punish me for having showed such nice coins. A compliment in a way, but it was a little ego fight we had. So he utterly defeated me...
But I got my own back when I ridiculed him for having colourfully toned coins (which I dislike immensely). So it was one all in the end.
We've got on very, very well ever since that. Even though we've disagreed on all and sundry in the past, but we've retained that mutual respect for one another. He says it as he sees.

Sofar I found following my Krause says that several of the smaller restrikes can be recognized by a rosette mark and that both 1907 and 1908 have originals and restrikes ( unspecified how to recognize them ) The Schön catalogue from Germany says 1907 and 1908 have two restrikes one matte and one more brilliant but does not say what the original should look like and how to find the original if put next to the restrike
So I went and asked the vendor why his coindealer thought it was an original and got the wrong answer ; he said no rosette But as I understand it from the Krause the 100 denomination restrikes are all without rosette

I do not have problems with him neither did I try to tell him he was wrong about the harshly cleaned coin He seemed to want to make clear what the pecking order was I took the non confrontational route and just stopped visiting the forum But I am not surprised by what Ætheling says about the coin pics contest he did the same to me
