The crazy looking profile, the strange anatomical features. Compare that seated lady to the windswept gal on the Peace dollar and you'll see what I am talking about. For me, the best parts of the Seated coins (besides rarity factor) are the reverse. I mean, these seated liberrty coins make lady liberty on the Morgan dollars look like beauties! All the more reason (IMHO) to buy them in AG. -Jay Edited by jarubla 11/20/2012 12:41 pm

The arms look a little bulky on them to me.

the eyes are huge, the profile of the head is unlike any human I have seen, and the...ahem...bosoms, are approximately 2.5 miles apart (for one so...pert). I recognize all of this is subjective. I also recognize the Seated Liberty coins have massive numismatic appeal. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (or in the case of a MS seated liberty coin, hand) -Jay

The design was stylized for the times. My love of the series stems from the period of U.S. history they spanned. When I hold one in my hand I can only imagine the stories it could tell. Morgans, on the other hand, would tell me they sat in a dark bank vault for 90 or so years.

SeatedNut, MOST Morgans sat in a dark bank vault for 90 or so years. I have a G-4 Morgan that was obviously circulated, a Morgan dollar sat in my family hoard for 125 years before it was passed down to me and I found one in circulation. Those have stories to tell (esp the one that sat in my family hoard as it was from San Fran and my family is Newfie). I do like the Seated Liberty coins as, as Seated Nut pointed out, the design was stylized for the times.

Wow DNA! those morgans are beautiful Very nice As far as seated liberties go, I'm not really a big fan but I wouldn't say they are ugly either.

I collect AG-3 Carson City Morgans, and this 1891-CC is my latest addition. Some would say some of my coins would grade G-4, but even those have more stories than "I was in a bank vault for 90 years". And I even have a 1967 Canada Cent that hasn't spent its whole life in a Mint Set...

I never even thought of looking at the possible problems with the lady on those Seated Liberty coins. This post made me go look at them and they look OK to me. Takes a lot of detail and thinking to come up with a design for an entire person compared to just the head. All the little things that get messed up or worn to fast on Seated or standing or walking ladies on coins. With modern day coins with just a person head on the head is simple and less to go wrong so it's easy to see why our modern coins are so simple.

Come now, she is neither strange nor crazy looking. She is a beauty indeed. As is the lady Morgan. The lady Barber on the other hand...
