I have done some research on this coin/token and found octaginal shaped ones that are similar. Is this also a gaming token? Thanks for any input you may have.

Yes, these are gambling tokens. Thailand is usually the place such pieces are attributed to, but similar pieces were probably used throughout Southeast Asia.

Julie - your token has the appearance of a Siamese Porcelain Gambling token. The subject of these tokens was covered on CCF a couple of years ago. This link will provide you with more information. If you scroll down you will find additional links which have numerous photos. of similar tokens.
