Would anyone like to share their sad tale of just missing out in an ebay auction?

One of the dangers in being a sub 10 second sniper (I know, I'm almost ashamed of myself) is having the computer crash while trying to place a bid. Since there was only a few seconds to go there was no time to restart and I missed out. That will teach me.

I'm somewhat ashamed to say that I've sniped a few auctions myself, but sometimes it's the only way to get what you want at the best price. I usually jump in at the last 30 seconds. If you jump in at sub 10 seconds then you really live on the edge. I won a couple with proxy bids, but I always hate when I lose out for .50 above my proxy.

I've lost one or 2 for the same reason as you...the computer hangs up or doesn't refresh fast enough at the last minute. It's part of the game.

I think all auctions should end after 1 AM !! thats when my evening usually starts !!

I work from 2 PM and dont get home until after midnight sometime !

that is why most of the time the auctions I bid on start in my watch list and if I get a chance at the coin I bid ,,if not then I did not drive up the price for the next guy and I also never feel like I lost by a quarter .

I usually post my bid in the last 2 seconds to avoid some one nickel-and-diming their way past me with 12 consecutive bids. About a month ago I had an ISP hiccup that caused me to miss a 1985 BVI mint set that I had been searching for for months. If my bid had gone through I would have won it.

Fast-forward 4 weeks and I saw two of these sets come up for auction about a day apart. I sniped and won the auction that closed first. The funny thing was that the second place bidder in my auction placed several bids in small increments on the second auction. They didn't win the set, but they did drive the price up $15 more than the auction that I won. I guess the moral of this story is that there is no shame in sniping.
