The premium set is not my personal set. I just took the photos. Again, other members here in the forum who saw this coin set in-hand while it was at the store all stated it was very nice and graded MS63+/64 in our humble opinion. Those that did not have the opportunity to see them first-hand, can only get to see bad photos of the coins, as it does no justice. The photo of the 1914 $5 coin taken a couple of pages back also came from the Premium Set.
As mentioned before by other members here, some individual gold coins are better than others, but overall, I'd say, the majority are pleased with what they have.
Then there are other buyers, desperate to buy the coin, no matter what kind of condition they are because they just want the set. Some of the coins the Mint had, such as the premium and hand select coins were not that great, but they will manage to sell each and everyone of them. I had even seen collectors and even spouses of collectors rush to the Mint store yesterday morning to buy these gold coins, and ask the reps for the particular year(s) he/she was missing, take a quick peak of the reverse to make sure it was the correct year and then pay for the coin(s) without closer examination. They will walk out of the store with less cash in their wallet but at the same time feel so fortunate and thrilled to have the opportunity to have the chance to buy these gold coins at mint issued prices.
Some of us collectors were fortunate to be given the opportunity to examine the various coins in-hand at the store before we make the decision to purchase them compared to buyers who bought directly from the Mint and have no choice or say but to accept what they receive.
As I had mentioned yesterday, the majority of the $10 HS coins were not that great with lots of bag marks, almost all of the $10 Premium individual coins they had were equivalent to the HS ones and not worth the extra premium, but people were still buying them. And by the end of the day, the hand selects we're all sold-out at the store.
I have also seen J&M's Premium Set which I also like, and to me, it seems that Tripoli (I have never met him before, beside reading his postings here) also enjoyed the set, looking them first-hand. I examined all the coins individually with Joe. His set was just as nice and equivalent to the one the Mint store had.

Is a non-hoard 1912 $5 gold a good trade for a 1902 British sovereign? I have the $5 but have no idea about British coins.

Actually it doesn't matter much.regardless where it was minted the price doesn't go over $600 with $550 as a more common price.
1902 Sovereigns are common and have been minted in London,Perth,Melbourne and Sydney.to know where it was minted just look at the mint mark on the ground above the date. If no mintmark is found then it was minted in London.

I think the mint needs to increase the dollar amount to get in the MC. $999 seems too low. Seems to be a lot of people in the MC.

Would love to see how much the 6 coin set would go for on ebay right now. Provided it's actually "sold out" as the RCM states...

Set of 3 PHS $5 just sold for $3701. By the time you calculate fees, there is not much profit, assuming buyer paid tax on the initial purchase. The HS's seem to be the most profitable so far.

Probably around $500 profit. Maybe everyone is celebrating St. Patrick's Day at the bar right now ;)

I agree. Better to sell the hand select set because it's more affordable.

The hand selected set just sold for 2075, not much room for profit after taxes, ebay fees, shipping costs and time. Maybe $200 tops.

I will never buy a 1912 and 1913 premium select $5 unless I have a chance to use a loop and see them. For 1914 $5 I take my chance.

Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone knows appox how many 1914 $5 and $10 gold coins are still around , as I understand it alot of the 1914 gold coins got melted down because of the war. So the 1914 is the scarcest date in the series? But I dont really know.
Thanks

Thanks The 1912 $10 coin had the lowest starting mintage and they were probably melted down as well for the war. I would still assume it has the lowest mintage of the $10 coins.
