Hey CCF, I have an oppurtunity to buy a 1957-D Franklin half graded MS-65 FBL. Is this a good buy? The reverse is BU, and the obverse has some light toning around the edges. The price is only $2.00 above RedBook value, and that was for a non FBL half. What do you guys think?

considering not everyone has their RedBook on them all the time or think it would just be a lot easier for you to give us the actual price instead of wanting everyone to look it up, so they just move on to the next topic without worrying about it or answering the question. I for one do have a RedBook (but I am sure some dont) but it is not on me right now. I have no idea what year of RedBook you are looking at either. Since I can't look at my RedBook to look at the prices I am going to go out on a limb here and say if the price is anything above RedBook its not that great of a deal and possibly a real bad one

Red Book prices are not necessarily correct, is it graded by a TPG or just marked MS 65 full bell lines?

Are you kidding? It's ALWAYS a good time to buy a MS65 Franklin! JK (not really). Who is it slabbed by? I believe NGC has slightly stricter requirements than PCGS. Is there anyway for you to post pictures?

Here's the best pic I could get. Sorry for the white blemish... Bryan and Muddler, RedBook for this is $52.00.

RedBook is considered HIGH RETAIL. I'm a dealer and if I sell anything using the RedBook, other than very high grade, I would feel like I was taking advantage of my customer. $60 would be an average price for a GRADED 1957D MS65fbl. I note that some have sold lately on the bay for as low as $45 plus shipping and for as high as $126. But most have been between $55 and $70.

As a collector and someone who has no plans on flipping our coins, I am on the fence with that photo and the price. I personally would be tempted if it were a coin with the FBL features that my hubby desires.

PCGS has a FBL 1957 d in MS 65 at $60 on their price guide that was recently down priced. This should be close to full retail pricing.

I just checked ebay and these seem to be going for about $70 give or take. I was able to find the listing for this coin. The coin does have some nice toning but there is a hit in the hair that could be deep and some of the lettering like Liberty, In God, Half, and United States show some weakness. I think I would hold out for one with sharper details.
