Seems likely that it was a newbie ebay seller...who made a massive mistake.

Three thoughts:
1- You... definitely called that shot right.
2- The seller... hasn't been able to stop smiling since that sale, has grown rich from his ebay sales, uses a new name/address for each new scam & is presently on his 50th new name/address since that sale.
3- The buyer... "There's one born every minute..."
