Either I've been in the dark of the Mint has been adding a lot of Medals recently. Usually I dont like the medals but the Navy Bicentennial one will be a must get for me both for personal reasons and the fantastic design.

I noticed that as well! I really like the military medals (Santa, are you listening) but I did think it was kind of odd that there was an Arnold Palmer medal next to them. I asked me husband why they would do one for Arnold Palmer and he looked at me like I was nuts. "You're kidding, right? It's Arnold Palmer! 'Nuff said."

The military bicentennial medals currently listed on the Mint's website were originally issued back in the mid-1970s (when the bicentennials occurred). They have been available on and off ever since -- their general popularity seems to keep them on the Mint's "active" medal list. I have a set -- they're nicely done.

I've been surprised that the Mint did not re-issue the series of medals tied to the War of 1812 -- it seems like the perfect time! I bet they would have done fairly well in terms of sales considering the current bicentennial celebrations. The Mint still has time, however, as the War's bicentennial will be marked into 2014, maybe we'll get lucky!

Kelly I agree the military ones are fantastic and the Palmer one made me laugh. The new frontier space one is really cool too.

Theres was a couple that left me scratching my head like why is their a first spouse medal when they already have that for the gold coins and it doesn't seem to be a very popular series last I had checked. Or the Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, nobel efforts in Burma but rather odd thing for our mint to be commemorating.

The 1 1/2 inch and 3 inch thing throws me off a bit too when both are offered. I kind of hoped they would be the size of an Ike and could do an album with the ones I really like, oh well not a big deal.

Commems completely agree about the war of 1812 ones, but since I dont already have the military bicentennial ones I'm not complaining they are very nicely done.
Now only if they would have put the same effort into the 5 star general design as these medals

Is it usual for them to have this many different medals on sale at once?
