Stacks Bowers is going to auction a couple of nice ones in New York next January. Examples (all the finest-known of the type): 1794 Silver Dollar, PCGS SP66. Considered the very first Silver Dollar ever struck by the US Mint, this was the single most expensive coin purchase ever when the current seller bought it. Yes, it sold for more than the 1922 Double Eagle. 1792 Half Disme, NGC MS68(!). 1793 Wreath Cent, PCGS MS69(!) The only 18th-century coin ever given this grade, and the only Large Cent of any year even close. Plus one lower-tier ( ) coin, not the finest-known: 1793 Chain Cent, PCGS MS65. Since PCGS has one in SP67, this lowly coin's only claim to fame is being one of only 4 Chain Cents PCGS ever felt worthy of MS65. Meh. It'll probably still break $1 Million. Apparently someone has confidence in the economy.

No, this is one of those "you gotta spend $150 on the Auction Catalog to get images" things.

Kelly, I think you're thinking of sequins! Round, shiny, often silver . . .

Just a playground for rich guys who probably aren't "official" collectors.
