Hi Guys,

here is another one I found. I think it looks rather good for a coin of its age. what would you put as a grade?

btw, sorry about the pics and the flash on it, I cant get it any better.

From what I can make out, this is Freeman 165. Not the scarcest of the 4 varieties of 1908 penny by any stretch, but not the commonest either. For F165 I'd add 20-25% to any 1908 Penny book value you can look up (Tony Clayton is a good start).

Grade: a pretty healthy VF I'd say, as long as the surface hasn't been tampered with. The colour doesn't seem quite right and any shine might be, shall we say, artificial. Might just be your lighting but there's my caveat. To qualify for VF, the edge of Edwards bald patch must be clear.

Value: for true VF, around £5.

Coin Photography tip of the day: get plenty of light on the coin - a couple of angle poise lamps are good, or even better, daylight (but not direct sunlight), and no flash.

hope that helps

Yes, unless you have a very steady hand a little tripod is a must. Mine cost me about £12 from a little camera shop but I'm sure you can pick them up on ebay. Only about 6 inches high - just the job.

Make sure your camera can do SuperMacro too. You'd be surprised how quickly you can get really good photos with half a day's practice!
