Hello, I've been given these by my father under the condition that I can only keep them if I can ID them. To be honest, I haven't a clue where to start with these... one seems in good shape with a eagle on one side and a guy with lots of hair on the other? The last one is a car crash of a coin, all I think I can see is a bird on one side and the other I really don't know. Any ideas?

The firt could be Ptolemaic kingdom (I say that since the portrait on those is all hair) and the second looks Greek to me... I vaguely recognise the shape on the first picture but cant remember where I have seen it.

I am sure the experts will be along soon to shoot me down :P

The first can be identified by comparing it to the hundreds of coins on this page but it will not be easy because the reverse of your coin is double struck making details unclear. I believe your eagle has three legs. I do not recognize the second.

Many of the Ptolomy reverses have two eagles standing next to eachother... which is what I suspected this was when I saw 3 legs...

As for the second I think it might be a bird carrying an ear of grain or sitting on a thunderbolt... possibly Mysia but I couldnt find anything matching size and weight... in any case everything suggests to me that it is Greek.

Thanks for the responses, i'll have to look deeper into Ptolemy coins to see if I find an exact match.

Ahh, I have just had a brainwave! I wonder if the second could be Ptolemaic too. If you rotate the bottom one about 30 degrees clockwise it looks a tad similar to the eagle in the first?
