I am just starting to collect the Franklin proofs, but I don't know how I should store them. I like the look of a dansco album, and that is what I'm using to store my MS Franklins. My question is: Will putting proofs in a dansco album ever hurt the coin? If so, how else should I store them? Brady

Normally, yes. It can sometimes start some bad toning to the coins, and normally it can damage them. You might want to be cautious with you BU ones. What I would try to do is get air tight capsules, and put them in there. Be sure to post pics of them when you get some! Phoenix

I have proof coins in dansco albums and have had no problems at all however that's me. If you want to be sure you can put them in air-tites they work very well and they are a lot better then 2x2's.

I have all the proof Sacagaweas in a Dansco Album, and so far they remain perfect.

Ok so if I go with air-tites for the coins, is there any cool-looking air tite display? I don't like the idea of having them loose where my little brother and sister can easily pick them up and 'play' with them. Oh, and I will post pics!

Glad to see others are impressed with the Franklin half. I am encouraged by that. However, from the forums I have visited, it appears there are very few Franklin half lovers out there, maybe this is a good sign for us for the future value, what do you all think?

First, regarding air-tites, there are a number of ways to display them nicely. There is an album that is designed for the holders. The individual cards hold 9 Franklins per page, and the album holds 6 cards. You can see these directly at the air-tite web page ( http://www.airtiteholders.com). You can also get them much cheaper at other on-line dealers (like JPscoins or Brent-Krueger). As for collecting Franklin halves, I think it is turning the corner and is not going to be a sleeper category much longer. It appears that when I go to coin shows, there are a large number of dealers with quality Franklins. Makes it easier to find them and there are usually a good choice of grades as well.

I just purchased a complete set of Franklins. I am currently transferring them from a Whitmans folder to a Littleton Album. I don't think an album will affect the coins in a detrimental way.

I have my complete set of Franklins (AU-BU) in a Whitman Classic Album and they look great. I would however, get air tites for the proofs.

I like the airtites for the single proofs ,, But most of mine are with their brother coins so many of them are stored in the whitman 5 coin mint set holders ,, I have had no problem with the coins in these holders.

Could you post pics of it? It sometimes all depends on how long the coin is in there, or if you touched it with your finger. I've noticed some albums you have to push in the coins, and that can get your fingerprint on it. Even touching them or pushing them in with gloves, that could still do something. But that is my opinion on it all. A coin can also get some ugly toning from an album, if it is left in there for a period of time, which can lower a coins value. But that is merely my Two Cents. Which type of air tite would best prevent my coins from toning? With foam rings or without?

I may be wrong Madhandles, which would be nothing new of course, but I think both types will be "airtight". I think the "with foam" and "without foam" is just preference. I don't own either, but I am guessing the foam just stops rattling?
I guess I just highly doubt it could be called an airtite if the only one that seals properly is the one with foam.
I'm sure someone will come along that has both types to educate both of us, but my gut tells me it doesn't matter between these two choices in regards to toning.

Sounds great! That would make sense that neither are more prone to toning. I think that I will go with the foam ones.

I personally like the direct-fit air-tites, I have not seen the coins move in them. Plus, the direct-fit does allow you to see the edges of the coins, not important with the Franklins, but could be for other coins.
