Yes, I bought 100 shares of SGOL when it dipped to around $1680 a couple of weeks ago. I wanted my wife to buy some physical gold but got nowhere with that.

I do manage her IRA, though, so bought shares of the SGOL ETF for her IRA and got nary a whimper out of her.

SGOL is good for trading in that it can be bought and sold quickly with just a few mouse clicks, doesn't need to be stored, and burglars cannot just come in and grab it. I like the fact that it is 100% backed by gold, is audited independently, and their vault is in Switzerland. I'm not saying that it is fully equivalent to physical gold because it isn't but it does have some advantages. Besides... there is no law in PM-land that says one can only invest in PMs in one way.

Tocqueville Gold (TGLDX)

That's what I have, and aren't doing good for the time, may have to take a loss in the future.

I dont personally own paper gold but for investments that is the way to go. Like Ed said you can sell a lot easier and also set automatic sale prices so theres a lot less risk involved

That's right, BB. I made over $2500 investing in the SIVR silver ETF when silver went from $26 and change to $34, cashed it out, added a bit of my own money to it and bought 75 silver Maples with the profits. That's real phyzz that I would not have had without these investing earnings.

This money is in an IRA, so taking it out can be done but I usually don't except for scheduled withdrawals. I do a "trade" with myself by making money in the IRA and then using non-IRA money to make the actual silver buy. I also add a note to my investing ledger that the IRA "owes" my non-IRA account $XXXX and settle that when my quarterly distribution comes.
