The seller says he "believes" one of the two coins is real! The members of this forum find and expel the rats of the hobby. I'm learning a lot here.

If I remember right, there is only one "genuine" piece of this design and there is no evidence of it existing before 1850 or so. Quite possible what he has are bad copies of a fantasy piece.

Maybe the seller will waive the shipping cost if you go and pick it up. (And then again maybe not.)

I also reported this coin to ebay. Excessive shipping cost to avoid ebay fees is something ebay takes very seriously. Why it is still an active listing I don't know. Maybe with a second report ebay will take action on this and end it.

How can he charge 5000 dollars if I cancel my bid? I'd like to see him try and collect. These are the idiots who ruin ebay.

I went ahead and reported it too. I guess the ebay staff was busy with football yesterday.

Shipping is 300,000 dollars. This is the main amount that these coins will be sold for. I will consider offers. Please make them within reason or I will not reply. You can pay it all through paypal or pick it up and pay in person. There are no refunds so make sure you want it.There will be a 10,000 dollar minimum deposit through paypal if you choose to pick it up. This is non refundable. Also a 5,000 dollar charge for a cancelled bid.

Unbelievable.

Actually, I don't think ebay cares about excessive shipping anymore since they changed their fee structure to include shipping charges. I suspect the seller is unaware of this fact...

It's no longer available :(. I so wanted it. When people were posting twinkies for massive amounts on ebay the other week, I posted one also for the highest ammount of only 5 million dollars for a box. If that sold I couldve bought a few of those coins :(.
