Went to my 1st coin show today. It was a little overwhelming at first but settled in and made a few purchases. Ended up buying 2 Seated quarters and a Seated dime, all VF. My Wife started a search for Peace dollars on her own. Several sellers had some in 2x2s they were asking a premium for but non at a price we wanted to pay. As we were walking out, past the last table a Guy she had already asked said he would sell a roll he had. Bought a roll of Uncirculated Peace dollars (10) 1923, (10) 1922 for $32 each. I know that they are very common dates but they are beautiful. Most stuff seemed a little on the high side but did meet several dealers who have stores and a couple who don't to stay in touch with. Overall a good day

Congrats. Have fun with it and remember to take it slow. I guarantee your collecting wants and needs will change several times as you learn more about the hobby.

Thanks acloco Thanks chesterb. Not too sure of my wants and needs right now other than working on my 7070. My Wife wanted the Peace dollars and the uncirculated roll was a bonus. Some of them are next to perfect with very very minor imperfections if any.

Yep.....some of them are close to perfect. Looked on PCGS Photograde and they are way up the scale. I didn't even know we were looking for those. Haha

Way to go on those Peace dollars. Even if they're common dates $32 a piece for uncirculated is pretty good. A lot of dealers will sell circulated for around $28-30 so I would have jumped on that deal as well if I had that kind of money. I usually wind up buying 1 or 2 at a time either from members here, reddit, or a local shop whenever I have cash.

I go to coin shows, but always with a budget. My usual technique for coin shows is to go around them 3 times.
First time is a preliminary, just to see what dealers have what stock that may interest me. Second time is to visit these dealers and to review what they have for sale in detail, but not buy any thing but asking for the prices of specific coins that I may be interested in.
After reviewing my budget, on the third time, I go back to those dealers to negotiate the possible purchase of those coins that I have short listed.
Then I try to catch up with a few of my coin collecting buddies, If they have some time to spare, and to spin a few friendly yarns with them, over a cup of coffee and a snack.

We have a small, local coin show around here. I have some deals in some bins where in others, I can get better deals ebay. I guess it depends on the independent dealer. Like I know I asked one guy at a show about buying a bulk lot of V nickels and he said they would be a dollar a piece, a local dealer sold me some at 55 cents a piece, and got an even better deal on ebay.

Thanks Guys
Sel_69l. I like your techniques and will try something similar next time. This was actually a small show so glad I got my feet wet here.

If I had such a roll of Peace dollars as you do, I would study them in great scrutiny. Using any grading guide, either online or in print, I would first examine them for strike and then for bag marks. You and your wife can do the same and each pick out your top example or three. No doubt you will disagree. This is part of coin collecting: every set of eyes looks at a coin differently. And yes, coins should be a family project if at all possible. I would enjoying seeing your Liberty Seated coins. We have a nice web page. See my signature below for the link. Matthew

I am going to look them over very closely as a couple have no marks, I just wish I ew more about VAMs. I will post the liberty Seated quarters and dimes up once I take some pics. Look forward to hearing your comments. Ron
