I'd like to start off by saying I am a complete beginner. The more I look into this the more I realize how deep this hobby/profession really goes. Also I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, so I apologize if it is not, and if someone could point me in the right direction, I'll make sure to try and clean up my mess.

Yesterday I was presented with 7 coins that belonged to a past relative. These do not have any sentimental value to me or any of my immediate relatives so I'd like to sell them. Before I do so, I'd like to know what I have on my hands, and what I can price them at. Please bare with me, I do have limited knowledge in this area.

All 7 coins have been ICG graded and are in ICG slabs. (research has told me that they are a 2nd tier independent grader and that PCGS and NGC are the "big two."

(5) of them are 1 cent:

(1) 50 cent:

(1) S $1:

As stated earlier, I have very limited knowledge on these coins, and I thought I would seek advice from real coin collectors.

What I'm looking to know is:

Where would I go about selling these? Local? Online? (my zip code is 26035)
Would they be worth getting cracked and regraded through PCGS? (I'm trying to maximize profit)
I'm open to hear your opinions about approximate pricing of each as well if you care to share your thoughts.

If necessary I will post pictures of each but I will not be able to do so until tomorrow.
Thanks for any and all information or advice on the subject. It will be greatly appreciated. :)

First and foremost

Second, your links are working wierd, some of them comming back bogus.

Posting sharp pictures (fuzzy ones do us no good) and listing the years and mint marks (we'll tell you where to look) will help us greatly.

Ahh! I see where the problem with the links, it included the closed quote at the end, if ou removed the closed quotes you will see ICG coin database to the coin.

I must say, ICG made a very simple user interface design wise that is.

Well, a 1909-S VDB is the money coin.
At least try to post a picture or a scan of it first.

As for TPG:
I think that most of the firmly held preferences for one company over another comes
from the very high grade coins. A Fine 1909-S VDB, if genuine, does not matter what kind of holder it is in.
Many potential buyers will just crack it out of the plastic and put it into an album.

A request: are you in a hurry to sell your coins or are you comfortable with letting the members
walk you through the process and offer several avenues? It is better to proceed slowly and with help from
people whom you can have trust.
We are those people!

Oh, I would want to take a look at the 1914 Half Dollar. A very scarce date and worth more than melt in any case.

Although doesn't sound like your going to stick around. To sell here you would need a lot of posts and not sure if your interested. I too had a problem opening those links. Would have been easier to take your own photos and use something like photobucket. As to selling those, your best bet would be ebay.

Links fixed.

For future reference, put URL tags ([url][/url]) around the link to make sure it is parsed correctly.

First of all, thank you all for the provided information and for fixing my links. (I now see the url tool in the post menu. My apologies.
I was hoping to be able to get rid of these fairly quickly, but by no means am I in any real hurry. I am comfortable sticking around and accepting guidance from forum member.
I would stick around to sell here, but as mentioned I would need plenty of time and posts, and my knowledge of coins is basic.
I am open to all routes though. As for ebay, how would I go about shipping coins? (sorry if that is a dumb question) I've grown up being told that you never put money in the mail, and I'm new to this. Is it okay to just put the slabs in a padded envelope and send them on their way, or are there extra precautions that need to be dealt with?

Below are all the coins in question, in original post order. My camera is not the best. I hope the quality is ok.

No need to worry about that, this board is very friendly and no one will look down on you for being new, we were all in the same spot at one time. Its a great place to learn if your interested and a good amount of threads require little to no knowledge to be able to have a great discussion. Its all up to you though if you just want to sell and be done with coins its completely understandable

Welcome! & wow! That's a great little set to inherit!! As others have said the 1909sVDB is definitely the $ coin, but although damaged the other pennies are on the rare side too, as is the half! The Morgan's a good date but the condition is pretty low.. Not to say it still won't bring a pretty penny, pun intended...
RedBook has the s VDB listed at $1050.00... Granted there prices tend to be high side, you get the idea! Great coin!
With the damage I'm not sure how much it will affect value but here are the Red Book values listed (undamaged) and as close to the grade as they have listed. (But like I said, these prices tend to be high and I'm not sure how much the damage will affect value, if I were you I'd go search completed auctions on ebay and see what the real world/market value is. Try to find some as close to what you have and it will give you an idea of what you might get)
IHC- 1908s- F-12 listed at- $125
IHC- 1909s- VG-8- $600
WHC-1914d- VG-8- $260
WHC-1914d- F-12- $385
50cent- 1914- G-4- $140
1890CC Morgan- the lowest they show is a VF-20 and its listed at $110 so for G-6 I'd say between $60-$80? Maybe... Someone else will know better than I.... Lol
It's totally up to you if you choose to stick around to get enough posts to sell here but I bet someone would be interested.. Don't hold me to that but I would be surprised if people didn't snatch them up! And in the time it takes to get your posts you might become rather fond of coins and choose to use those as a start to your collection... And I have to add that it would be one spectacular start!! If I had to guess I'd say the value could only go up.. Though in these times if you need an "extra penny"... Lol, the VDB s is the one to have!! Good luck and congrats!

Nathan, Thanks for all of the great information. I will look into previous ebay sale prices.

John, Thanks for the link. It looks as though it will be a very good piece of reference.

Does anyone have any light to shed on my shipping question from earlier?

Thanks

Keep in mind that NumisMedia is generally a retail price guide. These are the prices to expect to pay when buying from a dealer, but for selling they might be a little high (and especially high if selling to a dealer).

In your situation, it would also be wise to look at the completed sales on ebay. If ebay is where you end up selling them, this will give you a good idea what to expect.
