Here is a link to a recently ended ebay auction described as a 2000 gold toonie with a mintage of 5,000.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CANADA-2000...200852951142

I thought that the only gold toonie issued in 2000 was the gold family of bears-knowledge issue.

The photos in the listing don't show the reverse with the normal markings for a gold coin. The case and the package don't look familiar.

Is this a true 2000 gold toonie and, if so, what are the details on it?

Maybe its the 2000 $2 Path of Knowledge Gold Core Coin.

http://www.jandm.com/script/getitem...CID=5&PID=24

The J&M site says there is 5881 minted. They are being sold for $399.99 each.

BTW, looking at the prices of coins 10 years ago, NCLT coins have not risen much. A lot of them are still available at list prices.

Those newly released 100 year old gold coins look better each day. Gold back in 2000 was less than $300, now it is around $1700.

Thanks for your response. The photo in his listing shows the regular single bear whereas the Path of Knowledge gold coin has the family of bears on it.

Unless this is a coin I don't know about, I would guess that it is a regular silver proof toonie showing or maybe it is the 1996 gold toonie and he has his year wrong in the listing.

Thanks CC-Ottawa - it does look like its the 1996 one. The packaging matches the Colonial Acres picture and the 5,000 mintage matches the 1996 as well - mystery solved.

I contacted the seller but never heard back.
