What do you think of that one? I like it, and definitely wont pay full price but I might make an offer. I loved toned morgans but it seems like you have to get a super common date to even get a reasonable price. I'm looking for one for my 7070, and I can't decide on a beautiful toner or say an ms63 PL morgan. I do like the proof like ones as well.

For those of you who are willing to pay a premium for toners, what would you be willing to pay for this? Do you even like this one?

Personally, I prefer toned Morgans and would pay slightly over premium to get one I wanted. IMHO, they're asking too much for that one, although the toning is absolutely beautiful. I have an MS-64 1878-S w/ peripheral toning in those same colors, lighter towards the center on the obverse. It is my favorite Morgan.

I saw another auction of this guy's and the buy it now price was about the same but the seller accepted an offer $30 off. I'm thinking he would accept $145 for this. That still seems high having it be such a common date, but I really love the toning :/

I was very patient and the perfect coin came along at an incredibly reasonable price but I didn't have the funds available at the time. lol. That happened twice. I'll stare at this one a little more and keep searching. I'll test time and see if I still like it later. :)

I know what you mean... that's happened to me several times in the past too. I have champagne taste on a bread & water budget. Would you consider buying raw, or only graded?

I would buy raw, I wanted graded to avoid AT, but I think it's fairly easy to tell.

Coin shows are the best for finding toned Morgans at really reasonable prices. There are still some dealers who don't ask an arm and a leg for very nicely toned Morgan dollars. Be patient and you'll find just the right coin with the colors you want at a fair price.

I saw an MS-65 1880-S on a web site with nice color and the guy's price of $1595.00 is nearly 10 times the Numismedia MS-65 listed value. Unreal! No toned common date Morgan is worth that much just for some nice color.

I've only been to one coin show. I saw two beautiful morgans and I thought they would be reasonably priced, they were common date ms63 or 64 I think, the guy was asking like $700 or more a piece. He was like, these colors are rare, these are really beautiful. I agree they were nice but 15X the normal list value is insane, no matter how beautiful.

There are too many beautifully toned Morgans in high grades out there to overspend on one. I know patience isn't a strong suit, but I feel in this case it should be. Good luck in your hunting!

Nice coin but not the "monster" that everyone looks for.

Well I already found another morgan that I absolutely love. its about the same price but it's a ms65 1880 s. This one makes the other one I posted seem ugly. Hope I can get it at a good price!

An MS65 toner in your previous price range sounds like a decent deal in today's market. Good luck! And yes we will need to see pictures..

I'm a purple lover so this one hits me hard. Some may not like it but it's my favorite color. Probably why it hasn't been sold. Maybe it would have sold if it were more popular colors? All well, i'll see if I can cut a deal on it.
