I am very new to coin collecting but have been really enjoying reading the books and going through all the change in the house....I recently got some half dollar rolls from the bank to go through for fun. I came across this 1976 half dollar in which the L & I in LIBERTY seems to be completely missing. First thought was simply a worn-out coin but the definition on the reverse is still very complete. Not sure how could wear in such a specific place either.
Is this an error coin? If so, what kind of error? Any value above 50 cents?
