It's in rough shape but that sure looks like a mint mark and it's boxier than an O. What do you think?

I thought it was a D too, but none of these were minted in Denver that year.

On the first pic of reverse, it looked like an s (after a quick glance.). The next picture, close up of mint mark, looks like a d to me also. I realize that Denver did not produce any of these for that year- but it definitely looks like a d! After further looking, I definitely see the s in the first pic and can maybe trace it on the close up. Are these two pics from same reverse pic, just one magnified? If so, that is crazy!

The second reverse picture is from a different angle. I tried to adjust the lighting and angle to bring out what few details remain.

I just emailed the pics to my mom and made the pictures smaller for that email. Funny, when the full reverse picture was smaller, the S looked clearer. Go figure.

The squareish shape looks much more like a S than a O.

Murrellington, I answered that same question in my prior thread about the 188(5) V nickel, so I'll copy and paste my reply here :)

It's been in the family since roughly the mid 1900's where it resided in one of dozens of cigar boxes and containers of mixed coins. Most of the higher denom and valuable coins were probably culled by coin dealers many years ago and I'm going through the remains now, learning as I go. This coin was probably pulled from the cash register by my grandparents, who checked the register every evening when they closed the drug store. He did trade for some coins and perhaps purchased a few but this was not in a 2x2, plastic container, etc. Just one among many piles of various coins, mostly low-grade.

Oh, I read that other thread but didn't realize it was also from you. And it's interesting how you have some key date coins that are hard to tell. Any other rare coins you found that are hard to discern?
