Hi - comments on grade please and also what is happening with the 1 of the date, is it possible that it is a 1 over 3 and a 3 over 1 because if I look closely that is what it looks like ? Is that a known variant ? Thanks

The figure 1 in this date should look like a modern letter J, and the underlying numeral appears to follow that form.
Where it gets really strange is the 2 over 1. Never ever heard of that happening in this series. You may have a really rare piece on your hands. (Or I'm just old and out of touch)

There's no similar example in Peck, on the other hand, there are many varieties in Victorian pennies not recorded in Peck.

Peck does say that forgeries of farthings are less common, and some are good enough to deceive experienced collectors.

I think the spray of leaves in Britannia's hand looks wrong, and the 77 of 1773 looks different to the image in Peck.

As to grade. I think better than VF on the obverse, and slightly better than F on the reverse.

Thanks for grading Pertinax, do you not think that 7's and spray are similar to Peck 912 or reverse 2 on

weight and diameter appear ok but please let me know if there is something obvious I am missing.
