Perhaps those of you more familiar with the decimal issues than I am can offer an opinion on the grade and variety of this 1875H. Whether it's a small date or large date I can't say for sure despite the comparison photos in my books. It's a distressed example but still charming in hand.

Thanks

I'm 50% sure it's a large 5 ;)
AG3, absolutely ugly hole filler, but it would a great low dollar step towards completion

Yes, about as low as one can go, even for a filler, very ugly

This link will help you with both the grade and variety. Even in a distressed state this coin still holds value.

Thanks for the frank replies. Would this be worth more or less than the $20 I paid?

Hi TJ,

Looks like it's a "small date"...

In Charlton Guide the pictures of large date show that the top of 5 reaches above the top of 7... and bottom stem of the seven is much bigger, reaching well below the 5...

In the photo of your coin it appears that the top of 5 is even or below top of 7... and bottom of 5 is clearly even or below the bottom stem of 7...

Canadian Coin News "Trends" lists value in G-4 as $110

Take care, and Have a Great Day!

Well, I don't think this coin would make G-4, AG-3 would be the best I can see if that.
