I have a 2001 $1 FRN with what appears to be an error note of some sort, an error star note at that. I have had it for about 4 years and it still puzzles me. I am planning on sending to get graded and authenticated but wanted to run it by the experts to see what they think.

At first glance it appears to be an offset/overprint note with the back showing 100% on to the front. However I noticed that in an offset that the word "ONE" is backwards when it shows on the front of the note, exactly how the back would be if it were coming through to the front. This note the word "ONE" is correct across the front, almost as if the back was printed directly on the front of the note and then the serial numbers printed on after that because they are on top of the over print.

I am familiar with the vast amount of fake error notes especially for offset/overprint errors. I have examined it closely with a magnifying glass and I cant see any pixelation (sp?) or indications that this note was modified after printing. The back plate is numbered 99 and the back plate showing on the front is also 99. I took a few pictures (see below) and tried to get as close and detailed as possible. Any feedback would much appreciated :)

After reviewing the pictures, the pictures appear to be more pixelated than the actual note, I will try and take some better pictures in the morning.

I think it's called a wet ink transfer error. I would first find out how much PMG charges to slab it including P/H and insurance and then research how much this type of error is going for to see if it's worth the expense. It is very nice, congrats. Where did you get it?

First, this type of error will need to be graded by a TPG for it to be taken seriously. It is one thing for you to say it is legit but for someone looking at their computer screen it is not so cut and dried. If it turns out to be legit... Congratulations! Any error on a star note makes the value jump up in price! Nice find!
