If this is true it just might be worth it to the right person. But, I'd never buy a million dollar coin on ebay.

"This 1843 half eagle was struck at the Dalonega Mint and is the only known or certified specimen or proof Dahlonega gold piece of any denomination. This coin is graded an impressive Specimen 65 by NGC, which is a rare designation by both NGC and PCGS."

Saw it in person at the WFoM in Philly. It's gorgeous.

Byers had some unbelievable stuff in Philly; he's going to the gold side with a vengeance. My bet is we see this piece at a major auction in the near future - Ebaying it is just to build buzz, as we're proving by talking about it - and $1 Million won't get it done.

Wow, that is beautiful. Don't have the money to spare you though, sorry!

I have gone panning for gold in Dahlonega though; t'was a very fun day, albeit a disappointing acquisition of gold!

This company has the most one-of-a-kind errors and Patterns known to exist, and I'm guessing he/they use ebay for free advertisment since their most recent feedback date was on Sep-16-03 (almost 10 years ago)...

He did not have one single error coin at the show. I was told by someone well known that he's getting away from them. He only had about a half dozen coins, price tags totaling about 6 million IIRC.

Fred Weinberg on the other hand, had some errors that would make some collectors' heads explode.

Beautiful coin--and I'll never be able to afford anything like it--or understand that niche market.
Numismatically speaking, I just wonder if expecting $1M for what is essentially a unique proof strike is a tad optimistic?

So if that coin is on Heritage it is any different? You still spend a million on it either way. Actually more on Heritage due to buyers fees. If he was selling it out of a shack in his yard it is still the same coin for the same money. Not really sure of the logic here.

That thing is BEAUTIFUL! I can see the million price tag. A one off like that from Dahlonega? Yeah, if I had the money, I might well do that.

If it's your ambition to assemble the finest-ever Dahlonega set, this coin is probably worth the rest of your set put together.

Additionally, opportunities to own anything numismatic which is known to be unique do not appear frequently.

Two very disparate groups of potential buyers, each of whom have the disposable income and the will to push this thing into the stratosphere. I'll be kinda surprised if we don't see this one at the FUN auction.

That one is nice, but I like my 1847-D $5 Gold Half Eagle, which was about 1/10th of 1% of that price.

Thanks a lot ArrowsAndRays,

Now I'll have to ask you guys for another 1,100,000 dollars for these coins too.

Last time I checked my bank account was still unchanged. And I thought this was Christmas.
