Hi Everyone,

Here is a lower end 1817 with some surface damage.

Could it have been ground dug or what would have caused it?

Could have been dug but I'm thinking in the wall or floor of an old building. Where ever it was in came in contact with moisture over a long period of time.

Lady L. is looking pretty aged too - but still a good coin and I like the colour. This to me looks like it was caused by an extended period of damp.

Exactly what caused the damage could never be proved and it could possibly have come from several different possibilities. And if you are interested it is a N-6 a rarity 1 variety.
