My sister bought a necklace that appears to be made from a coin. However, it is difficult to identify. At first it appeared to have no writing apart from a tiny date on the back. However, the shield on the back may be highly stylized writing.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks,

I think it may be 1976 or 8. That's the Shah of Persia I believe and probably not a coin. If it's 1978 then probably it commemorates his overthrow in the revolution of that year.
Pictures with less flash reflection would be a great help, as would weight and diameter.

Of course, I'd never seen the resemblance before. The Shah looked a lot like Ataturk as he got older, but by then his image obviously no longer featured on coins.

Thanks to platinrubel and IndianGoldEagle I think you have it spot on. Sorry about the reflection. I am pretty sure its genuine. I guess I will try and sell it for spot price, unless anybody thinks the coin itself has any value.
