I saw a "First Release" PR70 MS70 silver eagle set on ebay graded by ANACS, but are they trustworthy on their choice of the "70" designation, or are they, like ICG, sub par in that regard?

ANACS is one of the TOP III Third Party graders; along with PCGS and NGC.

ANACS like oih82w8 said is one of the top graders. You should have no problem with their graded coins.

I collect Canadian Wildlife series coins. My coins are all NGC MS69. PCGS and NGC population reports have no coins in this series graded at MS70 . NGC only has 104 grizzlies at MS69 and only 486 Timber Wolves at MS69. Yet ANACS has come up with several sets of MS70's.
My LCS doesn't even sell any thing in an ANACS or ICG holder, they break them out and sell them as raw coins. Home Shopping Network seems to have an unlimited supply of ANACS MS 70 coins. Take their MS 70's with a grain of skepticism. IMHO

ANACS is great to get a variety coin attributed...they will do MANY coins that the Big Two won't touch...

I would defer for regular modern's though....

...and they do not charge extra for attribution (if you provide the attribution for them, they will verify it)...although I still don't like their holder.

If you are asking would an ANACS 70 cracked out and sent to PCGS or NGC come back as a 70, I'd say most of the time no. But on the other hand a PCGS or NGC 70 cracked out and resubmitted will probably not come back as a 70 most of the time either. And a PCGS or NGC 70 cracked out and sent to ANACS is not a lock to come back as an ANACS 70 either.

It should be a fine looking coin, but in terms of market premium it wont be the same as PCGS or even NGC. You could say theyre a little loser with the 70s, but you could also say PCGS is too stingy with 70s

The reason I am asking is because a few months ago I saw an ICG graded PF70 DCAM Lincoln set on ebay, and SsuperDdave informed me that ICG is considered "sub par" in their choice of the "70" designation. So I ultimately decided not to bid.

I know NGC and PCGS are trustworthy, but as I was unaware of ICG's shortcoming on grading "70," I wanted input on ANACS before I consider bidding.

I will add that when I was buying Morgan dollars I got some GREAT looking ICG graded coins at a fraction of their PCGS/NGC counterparts...and they seemed appropriately graded.

I have no clue about their history with moderns...

..and...

ahhh, yes, created and perceived rarities. Self limit the numbers and create a market demand for your products...brilliant

ICG is not saub par, nor is ANACS. They follow the same standards of grading. I can point to plenty of PCGS and NGC coins that are way over graded. It is popular opinion that PCGS and NGC are Gods gift to grading, but it just aint true.

Simple fact is you have just as good of a chance of an ANACS or ICG 70 actually being perfect as you do PCGS or NGC. SGS on the other hand...LOL

Thanks for all the input. The auction does not end until Monday, so I have plenty of time to think about it. I'm a novice, but there is something about a proof 70 DCAM that excites me.

You do always have a higher premium on pcgs though. I would only buy pcgs or Ngc. I try to stick to pcgs though. You will always get more money on the sale.

The only reason I would say not to buy ANACS 70 coins is because the resale value as most 69's and 70's look the same to me. The reason people even buy 70 graded coins is for a Registry set and since ANACS coins aren't included in any registry sets the premium on them is not there like it would be for PCGS and NGC graded coins. As was said above chances of any of the TOP TPG's 70 graded coins crossing over into another TPG slab at the same grade is pretty slim. ANACS gives out quite a bit more 70's than the other two top TPG's but that dopesn't mean the coins do not warrant them because like I said most people can not tell the difference between a 69 and 70 when looking at the coins even under magnification

With classics ICG does a fine job of grading and their reputation states they are very lax on their grading on Moderns and that is why SsuperDdave said what he did about them being sub par. Even if they are just as good the perception of the general collecting community isn't the same and that is what would make any 70 in their holder sell for what a 69 or even a 68 in any PCGS/NGC slab would sell for
