There's an 1886 quarter that's currently on E-bay auction. ebay Item number: 321041528688. >What grade and variety do you feel this to be? >See any possible problem's with this coin? Glenn

Glenn - It looks like the common SBE, Obverse 5 to me. Do you disagree?
I'd call it EF45.

Should add that the reverse looks like a weak strike.

1886 normal 6 obv 5 sbe. EF who the heck cares if I bid and I am not going to... Just my opinion reading this at the laundry mat, forgot the Dryer Coins again. While I was staring at the pictures hoping to give glenzy a reply I see someone else has.

I agree with the Obverse #5, however, I'm not sure if it's an S.B.E or L.B.E.? Definitely a Normal 6, I see no repunching or 6/7, or 3/7 type Variety! Glenn

I call it a "normal" 6 for lack of other known things to call it. "damaged" 6?

The glob pointed at in the photo seems important to the seller

I see what you mean about the SBE/LBE Glenn. On the SBE, the left bow nearly touches the maple leaf in the wreath above it, and the LBE has a good distance between them.
I think it's just the lighting that makes the right bow look longer than it actually is.

Perhaps it's the lighting or my vision getting worse in my middle age? But I'm comparing the ribbon to a few graded coins I have and it appears similar to an L.B.E, however, in the Charlton Cat it looks like it may be a S.B.E. And one more issue, the coin is raw and appears to have a lot of contact marks on the Reverse which makes me question it's overall grade? Obverse appears nice, possibly an EF-45, but the reverse may be a VF-30 or an EF-40 at best? Also anyone have any dealings with the seller (yqqcoins) of this auction? I believe he's from western Kanada! P.S.: this is best one I currently have, however I'm always attempting to upgrade my other 1886 varieties. Glenn

The tail on the right bough end often appears to be elongated on SBE.There are two different LBEs one of which can be mistaken for SBE.If you are having difficulty look to the upper right stems of the leaves,I'm pretty sure Charlton's has photos. I agree the ebay coin is far from EF45 on the reverse IMO. I'm sure you know the seller,he has been on this forum under many disguises and probably holds the record for most vacations taken. I like your AU 58,can you share the reverse?
