Picture #5 shows the gouge to go under the N?
Picture #3 really shows it going under the chin & over shoulder?
Picture #8 shows the denticles in perfect shape on top of the mess.
Like I mentioned, some may have been done after, but some was done b4, thats forsure!

What type of mechanism actually pops the coin out of the press? Does the first pic show anything that would be from the punch machine?

Still unsure how this could be PMD when the denticles are OVER the creases & divots!!?!?!?! Look closer & you can actually see a depth layer difference. It's like it was jammed in a machine for a bit b4 stamping? Unsure, but there are too many errors underneath, not above & toooooo many different depths on this coin to be PMD. Seems more pics would be in order I guess...

You want my theory on how this coin came to be? Some prankster superglued a coin to the pavement, so he could watch passers-by trying to pick it up. Lots of yuks. Until someone came along with a little more determination... and a tool, and pried it off. I'm seeing what I'm pretty sure is superglue residue - particularly the streak running down from the queen's nose, and the blob of stuff on the N in REGINA. Superglue is transparent, and can look just like blobs of metal. It can easily fool error-spotters, as happened in this thread. The dint in the side, and the scrapes radiating out from it, are where the retriever jammed a screwdriver, pocket knife or other tool under the coin, to pry it off.

Sap's theory makes a lot of sense, some acetone should confirm or infirm it.
