Trolling in the 'bay again and found these Danubian Celts Tetradrachm at what seems to be a good price. Of course, I'm still getting my bearings in this possibly treacherous side of our lifestyle. I've only begun to look into ancient Celtic coins, but seem to have found them to be on the pricy side. I don't mean the exotics, but the run of the mill coins working class folks used. My wife and I have strong Celtic bloodlines and are drawn to Ireland in an almost mystical way. I spent summers in Europe during art school and the Danube figures into lots of pleasant memories. As you are becoming aware, I only buy coins that I connect with on some or several levels. If the seller is a member of our esteemed neighborhood, then all is settled and I'll place my order. However, if the seller is a stranger would you wizened and not so wizened Wise Ones offer an opinion of these coins to this hapless hoarder of the odd and wonderful. Thanks one and all. http://www.ebay.com/itm/11097773111....m1438.l2649

CA, it's stated that the coin is a reproduction and a replica...just want to make sure you caught that. they look interesting, but I caught right away that something wasn't quite right.

My intuition sparked because something just didn't look right. I missed the line about reproduction, though. My face is red. Thanks for the help.

I saw a lot of replicas from that seller. It's good that they are labeled as such but I'm sure some people miss that fact and think that they are real. As you guys have.
But I wonder if it's alright to get a replica of a coin that none of us will ever afford? Like one that would normally cost 4-6 figure price tag?

That coin is a fake "replica" made of modern metal. Not worth the money to a collector of ANCIENT coins.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and great advice. I feel better knowing I'm not the only one that missed the caveat that these were reproductions.
Gil-galad: I understand your point of owning a good copy of a coin we couldn't afford, but most of the draw of ancient coins is the connection to the people and what was going on when the coin was in circulation. A reproduction doesn't meet that standard.
