Ever wonder where all of those fakes flooding the market are coming from?
I found these listings on Alibaba. Just type in "coin" into the search bar and 270 pages (!) of sellers show up. Most are selling custom souvenir medallions (like military challenge coins), but a good number have listings for "Custom replica medieval coins" and one was even brazen enough to have "Fake gold coin" as their header.

One of them even calls themselves the 'Quzhou Fake Ancient Coins Factory'

The rampant creation of fakes is precisely why we wrote the book on counterfeit Portraits.

We need many more books (probably one for each series) to document all of the fake types.

In some series there are many more counterfeits than real coins available.
