I found this 1965 and was wondering if it would be classified as a pointed 5 being that the extra piece of metal is defined as the pointed variety so I hear.
Blunt 5, with doubled 65. Tough coin to find, my best one is MS-63 Red. To date, all the doubled 5, doubled 65 and doubled 1965 coins I have found have been Type II varieties (small beads, blunt 5).

SPP, could you post a picture of your pointed 5? I have seen many like the OP's coin, actually was close to asking the exact question. I just find the Charlton picture unhelpful..
Here is a pic of a pointed 65 I have. I hope it helps.
Another thing to look for when looking for the "pointed 5" variety is to pay attention to the top bar of the opening of the five. I have it circled in this next picture. It will be at a sharper angle and comes more to a point then on the "blunt 5". Have a look and compare it to the Blunt 5 picture at the top of the post. I hope that helps a bit.
Thanks Cladhunter, that circled lower point is a great second feature that I will use as my first check for pointed 5. I see how much more the top bar of the 5 is pointed from your pic, but I've seen a lot that are just so close. That bottom point will so much better for me.. Now I have to go through 6 boxes of pre-1997 pennies, lol
