I don't know much about error varieties but own a few and find them interesting. I'm a major Lincoln Cent collector, so this is a natural fit.

I'm soliciting opinions about this particular coin. If anyone is drawn to bid, please do so, I believe in fair markets.

PMD (quite a few dings) + I think what's called a capped die error.

Wouldnt it be considered a struck trough? I am probably wrong but isn't a "uniface" strike immpossible?

I suspect it's struck through a late-stage die cap.

I'm not sure there's much value in this coin due to the obverse damage.

Thanks everyone for your input. I was outbid at $2.61 with a buck for shipping. I'm glad I passed on the coin.

Interesting piece.

No uniface strikes are not impossible, just very unlikely, and this piece does have some of the characteristics I would expect to see in a uniface strike. The one thing that bothers me is I would not expect the ghost image of the reverse to be that strong on a uniface. On a late stage capped die strike yes, but the coin doesn't really look like a late stage capped die strike either. I'm not sure which one it is.
