Hey, it wasn't really lost, and at least it was in a "safe" place! I have a few of them, they are nice, but when compared to the $5 Indian Head there's no contest!

No worries, did a bit of digging and was interesting reading about the Half Eagle's history, evolution and how it's changed over the years.

Is a nice looking coin, especially in high grades.

Here is a link if you want to see the rest of my (meager) gold coinage. I think now I've got 3 1/2 eagles including a 1912 Indian; 3 Double Eagles, one a gorgeous 1908 St Gaudens; a (Lib) Eagle; an some foregin issues...

Mmm, I can't seem to link to the gallery. I've been having problems for a while actually. Not sure what's going on.

Some of the early American designs are quite nice and as for the St Gaudens double eagle, well that has to be one one the nicest coins of all time. Must get one of those one day, but it's not likely to be for a while. The Liberty 5D is more within my budget.
