Need Help Identifying These Two. - Coin Community Forum

jcmworld Pillar of the Community United States 567 Posts	Posted 12/18/2012 12:38 am I am stumped on these two ancient greeks. The first one is fairly pitted but there is an ANΣ in the exergue and a monogram beow the horse. The obverse has a facing head. The second one has what appears to be a littus on the reverse but the lettering is in Greek so I went to Sear's catalog on Roman Provincials but nothing there. Not Celtic, maybe Judean? The obverse on the second one is gloppy, really worn so nothing there. I put up a photo of it anyhow. I put a US 1 Cent and 10 Cent coin next to them for reference as to size. Anyone have any info? I think the 1st coin is: Macedonia, Pella, 100BC +/-50 Obv. : Woman's veiled head (Demeter?) Rev. : ΠΕΛ-ΛHΣ. jcmworld Pillar of the Community United States 567 Posts	Posted 12/18/2012 2:05 pm Maybe an altar. The photo shows the coin tilted at a 45 degree angle to the left. There is writing to the left (showing on the bottom left) of the reverse. Thanks on the first one! Report this Post to the Staff
